A Note From Fee

A Note From Fee

I love Christmas and all that goes before and after, hanging onto the tree as long as possible. Birthday’s are one thing but too much me for my liking, Christmas is shared by us all. I am lucky that my family, without exception, share in my love. Getting the boys together always ends in a party. A little crazy at times, drunkenly finishing pheasant rillette at 1am on Christmas Eve, filling stockings and wrapping late into the night trying to remember who on earth that book was for. Chaos, absolute chaos! The errant uncle “what would Christmas be without Uncle Jim!” The boys cry out. I don’t reply, just smile. Waifs and strays, the more the merrier. Games, daft presents at the table (its going to be a long time, if ever, before Hal’s gift to my Dad is topped, not one for the newsletter!) My poor husband rolls his eyes in despair, far more logical and orderly than me (not difficult). He thinks I’m a lunatic, undoubtedly right but I think you need to have a bit of a lose screw to survive and prosper in this business.

Christmas day is sacrosanct, important, call it what you like. A gift well thought of is touching but nothing matters as much as everyone being there. Sadly, not always the case these days. The missing links are hugely missed, valued, toasted, thought of. We will never open the restaurant or café on 25th December. At work George has always, rightly so, had a day in December to celebrate with all our wonderful team before it gets too busy. This usually ends (or starts) with a hilarious moment or two and is worth its weight in gold getting the team together outside of work, cementing friendships.

I would love to think that maybe, just maybe, we can help some of you enjoy your Christmas with a bit more joy and a little less stress. Possibly just a box of mince pies (do say they are yours) all made from scratch here in our St Minver kitchen, mincemeat soaked in goodness and brandy for weeks before. Stuffed local turkeys, gravy, bread sauce, pigs in blankets, honey roast hams, Christmas pudding and cake, cheese, the list is long. We are here to help so do check the website or visit the shop which is groaning with festive treats. Promise me you wont strive to create the perfect picture postcard day, embrace the kitchen disasters, they really don’t matter.

I truly hope you find peace, love, happiness and laughter with family and friends this Christmas. Thank you for another wonderful year of support.
